Psalm 18:30–31

This God — his way is perfect; the word of the Lᴏʀᴅ proves true; he is a shield for all those who take refuge in him. For who is God, but the Lᴏʀᴅ? And who is a rock, except our God?

For this week, we encourage you to simply take this passage and pray it back to the Lᴏʀᴅ.

In other words, let this passage shape your prayers. Declare to the Lᴏʀᴅ truths like:

  • Your way — not mine — is perfect. May your will be done (Matthew 6:10). Transform me through my mind’s renewal so that I may know what is your good and acceptable and perfect will (Romans 12:2). My heart plans my own way, but you are the one who establishes my steps (Proverbs 16:9), so I delight to do your will (Psalm 40:8).
  • Your word is always vindicated. It is established and stands forever. It accomplishes all of your purposes and succeeds in all of your pursuits (Isaiah 55:11). Therefore I will memorize your word with joy. Or, as the psalmist says, “I will delight in your statutes; I will not forget your word” (Psalm 119:16).
  • Your ward (or protection) is like no other because you are like no other. Every other weapon will fail me. But you, my shield, will not. Every other servant is dependent. But you, my Lord and my rock, are sufficient even as your grace is sufficient (2 Corinthians 12:9). You alone deserve my trust, so to you alone I give it.

One of the sweetest privileges we have in the gift of God’s word is communion with him. Often, in the weakness of my sinful flesh, I get bored or redundant or monotonous as I pray. But when I pray God’s word back to him, I pray according to his will and I pray in power because his word is faithful and strong.

So, join us in praising the Lᴏʀᴅ’s way, his word, and his ward this week. And put all of your trust in him.
